Floors

Our dark floors on the parlor floors in our new place have these weird watery looking streaks across them that we can’t remove with regular cleaning products. Could that be wax? If so, how do we get it off? It seems like a huge project and you have to know what you doing.

I think the seller’s housecleaner who was hired to clean before closing in April waxed the parlor floor – the other floors are fine. We found a tub of wax in a closet. The floors looked great at closing but were really slippery and now there are these weird streaks. I’ve always had wood floors but never dealt with wax. Any advice appreciated.

The floors are engineered wood floors in – otherwise – great condition.

Thanks.

Selling 3 x 2.5 liter cans of Bioshield Resin & Oil Stain Finish – Walnut color.

Eco-friendly low VOC solution to staining your apartment floor. It retails for $90 per 2.5 liter can excl. shipping which adds a lot to the purchase price as you cannot buy it locally.

BioShield Resin Floor Finish will cover from 120 to 160 square feet per liter, depending on substrate absorbency and other variables so there is plenty here for an apartment with around 900-1100 sq ft of wood floor.

Anyone have experience with Verrazano Flooring? I have seen their trucks around the neighborhood. We just moved into our dream home, and want to repair and refinish the parquet floors in our bedroom, and put a new floor in the badly damaged pine subfloor in the living room.
We are never going to move and will only fix our floors once!

Like a moron, I recently pushed a heavy box along one of my hardwood floor without a rug under it. One of the heavy duty staples on the bottom of the box made a scratch all across the floor. It’s not extremely deep, but it’s noticeable.

The hardwood has already been sanded down quite a bit. I don’t want to replace it as it is the original floor, which we love.

Does anyone have any tips on how to touch this up?

We’re looking at a large coop where the floors of every room but one are covered with 24 X 24″ vinyl tiles. Judging by the untiled room, there are beautiful parquet floors under all that hideous stuff. To save money, we’d like to try to do the work of removing the tile ourselves, before having the floors refinished. Any recommendations about the best method to use? And are we crazy to think of doing this ourselves?

Hi,

I’ve been seeing a lot of showroom images where wood is used for the bathroom/kitchen flooring. My contractor and my mom has advised me against this – saying it will be a problem longterm. I’ve never used the homedepot/lowes wood flooring before. I’ve always had solid oak wood floors installed and then sealed/stained. Is there a right way/a certain type of material to use for “wet/moist” areas like the bathroom and kitchen?

I am also thinking about doing another kitchen in the retro black and white checkered squares, installed at a diagonal. What materials do you recommend for this?

A small section of the parquet in my living room floor creaks and flexes when stepped on and one tile specifically is cracked in a few places. I’m thinking the subfloor must also be damaged, otherwise why would it be so bouncy and creaky? Is it possible to repair just this damaged area or must I redo the entire floor? How much of a project is this and who do you recommend I contact for an estimate? Thanks very much.

We are renovating our bathroom and want to install radiant heating under a poured concrete floor. I am getting mixed advice about how concrete floors hold up, specifically cracking. Our contractor says if done right there should be no cracking. Anyone have advice with concrete floors/radiant heat in bathroom?

I cannot for the life of me remember what the name of the piece of stone/marble/fake marble/plastic piece that is on the ground of the doorway many times into a bathroom. Does anyone know what this is called and where to buy these? Mine has cracked and I want to replace it but I don’t know where to buy them. I want my tile guy to be able to replace it when he is fixing my tiles in the bathroom. Help!!! I have attached a photo of the one at my office. This is not my broken one.

Thanks!
