Many of us think this is not the “height” of a slowdown … but a precursor to a long awaited (albeit temporary) dip.
well you could get alot of nice cheap chinese and other asian foods with the sunset park house :). otherwise it a bit over price.
I agree with Bob regarding a slowdown in the rate of increase. Also, I think people still want to buy and if they can’t get their first choice of neighborhoods they will push a little further out. For this reason I believe that the nicer parts of sunset park, PLG, Bed-Stuy, and Crown Heights can still achieve 20-30% price increases over the next couple of years as new batches of buyers discover them.
If prices are still climbing in Brooklyn in the height of a slowdown, then why are some people waiting to buy in hopes that prices will fall? It seems like wishful thinking to me.
Sunset Park is much safer than Bed-Stuy or PLG. It’s not as safe as Park Slope, Fort Greene, or Carroll Gardens. Many people are choosing Sunset Park because they want to be in a safe area, and they can’t afford to live in one of the choice Brooklyn neighborhoods.
Stop with the lies. Sunset Park is a dangerous and crime riddled neighborhood. Though improving it has some way to go. Perhaps in 10 years it will get there but it’s not there today. To put SP above PLG, BS is a joke. The housing stock in Bed-Stuy makes Sunset Park look like Hooverville. Lay down the pipe and stop smoking the neighborhood crack.

At this point the slowdown seems to be more a decline in the rate of increase than an actual drop in prices.
I think these prices are higher than they were last year. I am starting to wonder whether or not this slowdown that everyone is talking about is actually happening.
Anon.02:30,
Actually, Rogers is probably quieter than Bedford (except when the firetrucks are coming out of the firehouse on Rogers bet. Maple & Midwood.
As to whether the Maple St.house is overpriced; I couldn’t possibly comment 🙂
