  1. “To Bobmarvin you are a fool my friend, Sunset park is very safe”

Huh?? I MIGHT indeed be a fool (otherwise, why would I post here under my own name?), BUT IIRC I’ve never written ANYTHING about Sunset Park on this blog.

FWIW I like Sunset Park VERY much and think its one of the neighborhoods people looking for “low priced” brownstones (if you can call $1 Mil low) should look, along with my own PLG, Crown Heights, and Bed-Stuy. The houses in Sunset Park remind me of those in the South Slope (i.e. the park blocks of 13th and 14th street, where I rented in the 70s) and are about 1/2 the price.

Also FWIW, I’ve been involved in helping organize house tours since 1975. I’m a veteran of the old Brooklyn Brownstone conference where the practice was to help build up brownstone neighborhoods in general. You’ll never see me disparage any Brooklyn brownstone neighborhood.

  2. anon 5:55- you owe Bob Marvin an apology. He did not post that. The names of posters appear under, not over the posting. I think we can safely assume that you are the 1:34 poster who underwhelmed us with your logic and prejudice. For the record, there has been little to no mention of how Lesbians are the prime movers in gentrifying Sunset Park. Let’s not take too much credit for that, shall we?

  3. too many streets to name where i been chased :p. from the pool in at the park to that stupid school dont remember like at 60th st and 5th or 4 ave some where over there and alot of streets in between.

  4. To Anon (5:38pm). We are thinking of renting for a year (our closing is at the end of June). We are also open to getting another/bigger co-op/condo so hopefully we will find something within the year. I was told my a broker that although landlords will not allow “break” clauses in the leases, they usually are fine with letting tenants out of the leases if they have get enough notice to be able re-let the place. Also, you could just sublet is you find the perfect house. We are also worried about moving twice (family of 3), but we just do not have any choice at this point.

  5. Sunset park is very safe, there were 6 homicides there last year check the 72 pct crime stats. The area was dangerous 5 yrs ago but get in line with reality. By the way if you haven’t been to Sunset park there is gentrification happening all over with Lesbians and young pros who are priced out of Park Slope. So go ahead and live in Bed stuy Great place for families lol. Ohh by the way the reason people would rather Sunset park to Bay ridge is the proximity to Manhattan and Bay ridge does not have the same amount of housing stock (brownstones)

  6. I’m definitely on the SP bandwagon. Lot’s of yuppy dropping: blue bagged newspapers on stoops, rainbow flags (pace and other wise), red doors, etc.

Crime statistics are publicly available, so stop wondering. PLG/East Flatbush/BS/East New York still hardcore relative to SP. The data doesn’t lie.

Plus SP has some of the best food in the ciudad/prefecture. PLG/BS will take 10-years, if ever to match the food choice and quality. You can put that in the bank.

Finally, SP actually has a couple of acceptable/improving public schools. Sorry, Chinese areas just tend to have good schools. PLG and BS are a major gamble for a public school parent.
