Why did you get chased through SP when you were younger? How does that indicate that SP is unsafe now? I don’t think anyone has said SP is the safest neighbhorhood in the world – just that it it is safer than other neighborhoods with similar prices.
the chinatown side of sunset park is very safe :p. other area well i got chased through the area alot when i was younger.
I think you have from both groups. I am one of the waiting to buy – just sold a co-op and will likley rent until the right purchase comes along.
Just one question about the Sunset Park posting. It mentions that it is near “other late 18th and 19th century” row houses. There is no housing in Sunset Park from the 1790’s. Am I wrong? What is the broker thinking?
For many people Bay Ridge feels too far away from Manhattan, in spite of its great housing stock. And for people priced out of Park Slope, Sunset Park is the next boro after the cemetery.
To PPSer at 3:05 “not enough time to attend to the house while engaging in a full time pediatric practice”, give me a break. I suppose every home owner in PS gets home at 5pm and has nothing else to do but tend to their homes. Also, ever hear of hired help!
A general question to the people on this board “waiting to buy” — are you renting your apt now, or are you co-op owners hoping to ladder up to townhouse living?
So let’s say prices do fall. Interest rates are also climbing, so your mortgage payment will still probably go up. Prices are not going to fall as much as interest rates rise. Once again, waiting to buy in Brooklyn is probably wishful thinking.
Re 209 Maple: There is more traffic noise there at the end of the block. I like these smaller houses, but I don’t think the renovation is done ALL that nicely, although I understand they did a lot of work. The basement is nice. It lacks a kitchen. Using 156 and 178 Maple as comparables, I would think that under $900K would make more sense.
