Can you say ‘bachelor pad’? This loft at the Newswalk Building in Prospect Heights looks like it was designed for a party. It’s more than 1,100 square feet and designed with an open plan; the high-ceilings don’t hurt either. The combined monthly charge of $892 is quite reasonable, as is the asking price of $599,000, we think. Of course, there is one small downside: We hear that some small-time developer may be doing some work across the street for the next 15 or 20 years.

  1. Park Sloper, he also slept on an inflatable raft for a few years. That is my personal “huh?” moment with him.

Rob, you’re writing a memoir right? Your millions await if so.

  2. im interesting in architecture and real estate and cities, that’s why im here. sheesh! i had no clue my alternative lifestyle bothered you so much. you know there’s people out there who live weirder than i do! i bet there might even be a few on this board!

  3. *rob*: I just don’t conceive of how you live! You have no coat closet, but you think it’s gross to put guests’ coats on your bed (a common practice here in America, by the way) — oh, wait, but you have no bed! You’d also rather walk out of your room and down the hall to the bathroom than have the convenience of an ensuite bathroom because you’re worried about “poo mist” (have you heard of doors? not to mention toilet seat covers?). You’ve also let the whole b’stoner world know that you’d have trouble keeping $200 in your checking account (on a site where quite a few folks have $130K lying around), so maybe that explains your lack of a bed. But seriously, dude, since “sulking in your big pricey studio on a beanbag playing PlayStation” doesn’t sound like a bad life to you, what ARE you doing on a site mostly meant for folks interested in buying, selling and improving real estate? And have you considered therapy?

  4. Our friends live in the Newswalk building, but in a 2.5 bedroom apartment of about 1700 SF. Alot of space and very high ceilings. Problem with many of the apartments are that windows are only along one wall, so interior rooms dont get light/air (the 3rd bedroom is essentially a dark den). The block is a bit industrial, which is fine, but I cannot imagine what it will be like once the construction gets going full force. for their sake, i hope its quiet.

  5. Daniel Goldstein should buy this place. He can spend the next twenty years of his life blogging about the construction.

“Day 4389: Oh, the darkness. Behold the third generation robot bulldozers circling Dean St. Oh the humanity! Now to order sushi.”

  6. “exactly. and just who ARE these people who have that? ”

People that work hard and save a few bucks? Like the people who read this blog?

  7. Rob, someone misled you about the prevalence of bedbugs.

My idea of a bachelor pad involves a few more couches and closets than this place offers. Plus not sure I want to hole up all the time when I have NYC at my doorstep.
