Condo of the Day: 535 Dean Street, #616
Can you say ‘bachelor pad’? This loft at the Newswalk Building in Prospect Heights looks like it was designed for a party. It’s more than 1,100 square feet and designed with an open plan; the high-ceilings don’t hurt either. The combined monthly charge of $892 is quite reasonable, as is the asking price of $599,000,…

It’s more than 1,100 square feet and designed with an open plan; the high-ceilings don’t hurt either. The combined monthly charge of $892 is quite reasonable, as is the asking price of $599,000, we think. Of course, there is one small downside: We hear that some small-time developer may be doing some work across the street for the next 15 or 20 years.

The person does have more closets…just not in floor plan.
Old industrial bldg with high ceilings , open floor plan qualifies as ‘loft’ in NY lingo. High enuf for a ‘loft bed’ (sounds so 70’s) is your def.
Certainly not for people that want and only think traditional or worry that someone may see that they don’t make their bed or still have cartoon sheets.
The construction of whole AY may be that time frame…but that whole thing extends blocks. Right across the street does not last the long.
I like the building. Have seen one of these types of apts there. But back of my mind says there are some developer defects…but don’t recall details.
Those aren’t the original, unless they have been stained or painted.
BrokeD – what’s the deal with those floors?
I’ve had guests do that.
ew i would also never put a guests coat on my bed (if i had a bed) either. (you can get bedbugs that way!). it’s on a hook or on a doorknob, no where else.
*rob*
I used to own an apartment in this building of the same size, but lower floor. The fact that the windows are only on one wall and on the the shorter side of the rectagle makes making bedrooms difficult, but not impossible. However, the space is nice.
I bought mine for about $350k in 2003. Sold it in 2005 for quite a bit more.
I don’t think the typical NYorker has enough closet space to store people’s coats, that’s why they are always on the bed.
“never in my life have i ever had a guest that asked if they could hang up their coat in my closet. and i dont think ive ever asked anyone if i could hang up my coat in their closet. that’s so so strange sounding to me.”
Seriously !!
and they’ve also invented these cool little devices:

Problem solved!!
I actually feel really bad for all property owners in the Prospect Heights north/Fort Greene south neighborhoods. What compensation do they get for a hit to their properties’ values for a construction site this city neither needs nor wants? Oh, the same compensation we all get – an additional $350m hole in the city’s finances through backroom subsidies and a backroom deal on the site that left at least $100m on the table.
