Condo of the Day: 535 Dean Street, #616
Can you say ‘bachelor pad’? This loft at the Newswalk Building in Prospect Heights looks like it was designed for a party. It’s more than 1,100 square feet and designed with an open plan; the high-ceilings don’t hurt either. The combined monthly charge of $892 is quite reasonable, as is the asking price of $599,000,…

It’s more than 1,100 square feet and designed with an open plan; the high-ceilings don’t hurt either. The combined monthly charge of $892 is quite reasonable, as is the asking price of $599,000, we think. Of course, there is one small downside: We hear that some small-time developer may be doing some work across the street for the next 15 or 20 years.

To me a ‘bachelor pad’ means you can sneak away during the party and get it on with some random guest, but this offers no privacy as a big studio. And at some point, said guest will want to put their coat/stuff in a closet, but then oops, no space, and they get sick of hearing the work at AY, and they dump you. Then you’re alone, sulking in your big pricey studio on a beanbag playing PlayStation.
OK, firstly 24×40= 960 square feet. Secondly, one window means this will never be more than a studio, so the monthly charges are not cheap. I’d say $430- $480k at the most.
If I recall correctly(gin affects only short term) these big stuios were going for the $275-325k range. This is back in 01.

exactly. and just who ARE these people who have that?
*rob*
This is a glorified studio. You can install a wall and a door to the bedroom but then it has no windows. You also need to build closets.
um $832 for common charges on a condo?
THAT’s NOT REASONABLE!!!
the space is ok – it’s totally for a dude though
“it makes me sad that the only kinds of people who can afford a place like this are people who totally dont deserve to live in those kinds spaces. grrr”
What were these initially going for? I think 5 years ago, with the different lending environment, someone a little more “normal” could have afforded this place. Now, of course, you’d need like 130k in cash laying around.
1 closet in the whole entire apartment. You have to be kidding???
rob, what makes them deserving or not?
