my parents had the same attitude re: college that M4L has. they told me a better make sure i major in something that will get me a job upon graduation.
Oh hell no Legion! I am only Dr. Snappy in the mental health sense for my nutball friends 🙂 Just curious about the process is all. I had friends in college who killed themselves trying to take every science course offered and only took the minimum required courses in other areas. They were convinced that med school was not an option unless they lived and breathed science for the four years. Wondered if it were true or not.
“Is it possible to get into med school without majoring in biology/chemistry?”
Yes, but you will still have to have the required science and math courses you need for admissions. They have lots of post bac programs for that. Med schools actually love applicants who major in things other than hard sciences.
I did fairly well & no one ever asked me if I’d gone to kindergarten, never mind college. The world has changed since then & it’d be harder to do but I think an important aspect of the 4 years of college is simply the maturation process.

Is it possible to get into med school without majoring in biology/chemistry?
Yes. Mt. Sinai med school has a pilot program for humanities students who took very little science, but many/most med schools require some science but not a major.
There are also a bunch of one-year post Bachelor’s degree programs for students who want to go to med school and need the minimum number of science courses, or you can do it without a program.
The commonly accepted coursework requirements for medical school include a minimum of 1 year of:
General biology
Physics with lab
General chemistry (inorganic chemistry) with lab
Organic chemistry with lab
Calculus
English
If you are planning to do your premedical coursework after you get your undergraduate degree, you can take these courses at nearly any four-year college.
even if you are paying for their college, telling them what to major in kinda sorta defeats the point of college, to figure out for YOURSELF what enjoy and like to do. i mean i do understand what you are saying tho as since youre paying for it you feel like you have that right.
