i know SO many people from college who were in the same majors as me only for them to just go and find rich and well to do husband after graduation. sometimes i feel like women have it easier in life.
Denton, why the snark and “amusement” with me lately? It seems odd. I’ve typically found much with which to agree in your comments and am a bit taken aback by this cool snippy from you.
Apologies for saying “don’t be an idiot” a few days back in the AY thread, but it felt called for at the time and I thought I explained the retort adequately. If not, apologies again.
I do disagree with this dismissal of Sociology and the Social Sciences as some kind of facile fluff. Strongly. And I’m finding the tone of today’s OT bordering on a boy’s club thing, but I’ve not equated anything you have to say with “amusing” or “hysterical” fodder.
most of the anger on the LEFT might have it’s origins in those 60’s “radicals” who found their homes in academia due to their inability to “make it” in the free-market.
Their response is to seek a political solution to restructure society.
snappy,
a non-science major could get into med school,
but they’re gonna have a hell of a time getting through
the first two academic years which is basically two straight years of science:
Organic Chemistry
Histology
Genetics
Anatomy
Physiology
Pathology
etc,
etc
My mother is a doctor. She got an undergrad degree in sociology and then was getting her PhD in sociology when she decided she would make a switch, so she sat in on a few undergrad science classes and then went to med school.
Denton, I blame the freaking schools jacking up the tuition to ridiculous levels for my harder stance on this stuff. 200k is a ton of money and we’ll be making tons of sacrifices to scratch together. I cant take the chance it’ll pan out for the kid. for as many people I know who did well with those fluff degrees, I know a ton more who didnt.
Tuition prices are ridiculous. Especially considering starting salaries these days for many occupations.
“And I’m finding the tone of today’s OT bordering on a boy’s club thing”
It’s not just today, noki.

m4l, I have to agree that I can’t figure out why tuition has risen so steeply so fast, with no apparent end in sight.

It seems to me that the angriest group of the electorate is the teabags & I seriously doubt that they are disenfranchised 60s college grads.
