More Walking Tours: Park Slope Historic District

Though Bay Ridge doesn’t get as much attention as its brownstone-heavy neighbors to the north, the neighborhood boasts historic architecture, diverse communities, solid food, and stunning waterfront views. This walking tour will take you from the Bay Ridge subway station through residential side streets and onto the neighborhood’s main drag of 3rd Avenue.

Bay Ridge is a relatively small community, spanning from Shore Road, which marks the northern boundary of the neighborhood, south to the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge. Its western edge is completely bordered by parkland and The Narrows waterway. Give yourself an entire day to explore here, and you’ll cover most of the neighborhood.

The neighborhood borders Brooklyn’s favorite amenity — Prospect Park — and is also home to a growing number of local restaurants, bars and shops. On Tuesday, June 18th, the Long Island City Partnership will host the forum “LIC Now: Perspectives and Prospects.” It’s a chance for elected officials, business owners and civic leaders to discuss the changing landscape of Long Island City. The feature speakers include Borough President Melinda Katz and City Council Majority Leader Jimmy Van Bramer. Other panels include discussions on residential real estate, television and film, arts and culture, and LIC as a tech district. A Q’Stoner tipster was wondering what kind of supermarket was moving into the row of stores along 99th Street bordering LeFrak City, and it turns out it is the Chinese chain GW Supermarkets. It’s a small grocery store chain with eight locations throughout Boston, Maryland, Georgia, Virginia and two on Northern Boulevard in Flushing.

The grocer will occupy a large space that is now undergoing a massive renovation. (According to the GW Supermarket website, the store will have multiple delicatessens, as well as a produce and seafood selection.) It’s expected to open this summer. As our tipster says in regards to the rendering, “Apparently, they expect albinos and ghosts to shop there.” GMAP
