Not my block, but extremely close (all I can say without giving up my exact location!). Yes, the wind was blowing south so PS was spared the acrid smell. I finally got the smell out of my apartment yesterday. Now you can only smell the stench when you walk past the building itself.
Wow, bad news, snappy. That’t not your block, right? Is the air clear in your apt. now, or still smokey residue?
Oddly, no sign or smell of smoke on our block when I got home. We’re just 4-5 blocks to the north. I think wind was blowing the other way as gem got hit pretty hard further up in Greenwood.
They said someday you’ll find
All who love are blind
Oh, when your heart’s on fire
You must realize
Smoke gets in your eyes
Smoke is gone, but streets are still blocked off to traffic. Word is that they are trying to figure out a way to tear down the building without affecting surrounding buildings. Burned buildings have been deemed “structurally compromised” and unsafe. No one allowed in under any circumstances. Complete mess over here.
That would actually be kinda cool. GH is known for its hodgepodge of architecture. Back here, there’s no such thing as ‘that doesn’t fit in.’
they’ll build a nice modern glass tower on that corner spot.
Fire is truly a tragedy, but someone got the most beautiful shot I’ve ever seen:
