  1. “Legion, you and I and the other Federalists can meet sometime at bauman’s rare Books around the corner from my office and see all the great stuff they have..”

    Bauman’s is probably the most over-priced book dealer on the planet.

  2. “cobble, reread benson’s statement. he makes a perfectly good arguement why there needs to be “limits” to healthcare that’s available to all.”

    The irony is that y’all should check out what get’s covered under Medicaid. According to Mrs. D, that includes sex change ops. According to her, it also used to include reversal of same, something that has been stopped.

  3. Bxgrl;

    As usual, in your eagerness to argue with me, you miss my point. I’ll spell it out in more detail for you. It is really quite simple. I’ll use a phrase that our founding fathers were going use in the Constitution, but (unwisely) decided to leave out:

    “For every right, there is a responsibility”.

    This thought is not what guides our social programs today. Instead, we have an entitlement mentality.

  4. Oh please. As I have said many, many times before, why throw up extremes to illustrate points? Your point is not made from extremes.

    Heath care for everyone? Ohhhh, there’s that horrible Octomom, single handedly taking the money from your pocket. Welfare? Ohhhh, there’s that woman in the project with 5 kids, all six of them robbing you blind. Immigration reform? Ohhhh, there are drug dealers getting into the country. Rent control? Ohhhhh, there’s the wealthy cheapscate, renting for $600 bucks a month at the Dakota.

    It’s really easy to find someone who is over the top in any situation. None of which goes to the real problems at hand. Real American people of average means need health care. For too many people, it’s get treated at the last minute, when it could be too late, or not at all, and die early and unneccessarily. Anti-immigration laws of Arizona’s ilk are unconstitutional, and frankly un-American, and will do nothing to stop illegal immigration, it will only drive it further underground.

    We are not a loose federation of states, like 19th century Italy or Germany. We are supposed to have a federal government that sees to the needs of the people. And whoever said it is right, more power was consolidated under Bush than any other president, most of it under the guise of “homeland security”. Where was the hollering and screaming about it then?

  5. The drug violence in Mexico is interesting. A decade or two it ago almost destroyed Colombia, a country that I have an interest in. For a while Colombia laughed at the drug trade and said it was an American problem. Then it bit them in the ass. Now, not only is it beginning to bite Mexico in the ass, it’s crossing our borders. Should be fun.
