  1. We, as a country and society, provide certain services, programs, and funding for those who need it. Those who are eligible, by the definitions of those programs’ guidelines, qualify and take part in those programs. Where does this need for the recipients of that program to somehow prove their utter worthiness, come in? Are we back to only providing for “the deserving poor?” like the Victorians?

This attitude that those below are supposed to grovel in gratitude to those above really sticks in my craw. Yes, personal responsibility needs to be a part of life in general, but to think to deny people basic health care, or housing, or food, or anything of the sort, because they don’t match up to someone else’s high standards, is not right. Especially when those who make up the standards have never suffered want, never have been in desperate straits, and have never been denied anything they ever tried to achieve or want. Sorry, not buying it.

  2. “Last night I text cgar to have a drink at clover club and he said something about work. I’m assumming that is the first time a plusa said no to a drink.”

    A. It was a Tuesday.

    2. It was already after 9pm, and I’d already slipped into my feet pajamas.

Third, my colleague is out today, so I’m covering the desk solo.

IV. The West Coast and Asian offices are killing me — why they can’t work East Coast hours is beyond me.

    e. You slapped me virtually, DeLepp, and it really hurt.

  3. Yes, denton, in fact, I was making much more : ( I’ve done the mental math, and it would be hard to make anywhere near the same amount I had been making doing just about anything except hooking over on Third and Nevins. : P

  4. “we think they should be mature enough to know to sink or swim in the pre-college school system?”

I think it’s a question of intellectual capacity and the best kind of eduction, not maturity. So yes, I think we can.
NYC still does have elite public high schools such as Stuyvesant et al. I think they should make this system more widespread.
Also, not every kid is best suited to a strongly academic education. I am all for good trade schools.

  5. Emergencia!

Last night I text cgar to have a drink at clover club and he said something about work. I’m assumming that is the first time a plusa said no to a drink.

What is it with hipster beards? I’m not sure my vocablulary is extensive enough to describe the bartender’s facial hair last night.

    OK back to politics.
