Cobble- unfortunately, they can get worse. I couldn’t believe they spit on him or used such repulsive language. But people who are that out of control will get worse. Unless the leadership gets a grip. And so far, I don’t see too many Republicans calling for common sense and ratcheting the drama back.
What has the President accomplished with Pelosi and Reid?
-they passed a reconciliation bill that wasn’t actually the senate bill.
-they passed a bill which does not cover the entirety of the nation, but only a few percentage points more than before.
-they didn’t get a single payer plan as originally proposed.
-they had to pay off senators for votes including the
cornhusker kickback, the louisiana purchase, the gatoraid
plan, etc, etc, suprisingly , Kucinich came cheap with only a bag of peanuts and a ride on Air Force one required. Stupack was strongwilled but only required a worthless presidential executive order to sell out his principles.
-they now face a series of amendment challenges from senators which will effectively send the bill back to the house for another round of fun that may actually kill the bill once again.
-the president did accomplish passing the biggest tax bill in history during the worst recession in 80 years.
-he succeeded in passing a huge entitlement bill without a single republican vote.
-he managed to dupe the american people by stating that the bill would save money when we know that the “doctor fix” bill which will pe passed along side it, effectively puts the bill into the red. that means it will cost more money in the end.
-sad day for a pied piper leading the dems into ruin.
ENY, this aint football where salary cap has equalized competitiveness across all the teams. In baseball, the uncapped environment and mega spending teams make it very hard to win for the small mkt teams. Twins will always be competitive – great GM, manager, scouts,… but that’s not enough to overcome mega spending teams like Yanks, Sox, Angels,…. So net is he aint playing in a contending team unless owner continues to break bank to chase after trophy.
if Twins had money like the Yanks, their “home grown” talent over the last ten years would challenge and probably exceed the Yanks’ hown grown set of Jeter, Mariano, posada,…. but that’s the risk Mauer is taking on with re-signing – uncertain what future spending he can expect from his owner on keeping and getting top talent like the Yanks, Sox,….
ENY, Agreed! But I do wish it had been even just a slightly more bi-partisan vote.
Rob, Yes, your employer-based health insurance is now a thing of the past. You will have to sign up for welfare next week [if you even have a job] or you will be shipped to Vladivostok on Friday.
bxgrl, You mean they aren’t whipped up into a frenzy enough already? Spitting on John Lewis wasn’t hideous enough?
somehow I think the american political focus on this issue won’t last long. There will be some other hot-button issue by fall.
And I fail to see the big hoopla over this.
Immediately or pretty soon, ends the pre-existing condition clause and lifetime caps on individual policies. Somehow I don’t think the general public is upset over that .
Most of us are on group policies or medicare. And no substantial changes.
The biggest objective is have more people insured – and that doesn’t really happen until 2014. (unfortulately).
As DeLepp points out, too big of our GNP is for health care…but that seems more of our culture(demanding), current methods of medical reimbursement, etc, etc.
That doesn’t change and should be addressed…but you know entrenched profit making interests will stop that at all costs.
My big worry is that the Republicans will really go into a frenzy and whip people up even more. They already crossed the line several times, and not they’ll be even more savage, especially trying to get the tea baggers to join them. They said on the news one TB tweeter was calling for killing. And he wasn’t referring to the bill.
kens, I thought that might amuse you!
or you will be shipped to Vladivostok on Friday.
