  1. quote:
On the whole NYT article: While I agree women’s earnings have increased significantly since the 70’s there is still a disparity in salaries between a man and a woman holding the same position.

personally i dont believe that to be the case AT all, in nyc, for the most part. and many others (women and men) have said the same.

    *rob*

  2. a gay friend of mine while in dating stage some years back (after a long relationship)…who is quite successful financially seemed only to date guys much lower economically (and education-wise also). When we suggested places to meet other guys that could afford things he does
(private airplane, etc) , didn’t seem interested.
Tryed to figure out why. I think because he was so competitive – he did not want someone who could ‘compete’ financially with him.
I think same applies with heteros. A competitive guy is less likely to be interested in woman who would ‘beat’ him.

  3. THL:
exactly – Mariah is 42 years old and a size 16 – dress like you are both and not like you are 22 and a size 6
and wow to the hummer stroller – I keep forgetting about stuff like that
WAHHH – why did we sell our house – WAHHHHH – seriously!

M4L – true, but then again it’s on the park in a limestone building that has a lot of sqft,it’s just a funky layout – plus the house on sterling place in park slope, the greedy owners only wanted cash, we wished we had the cash as that would have been the investment of a lifetime

Legion/Chicken – soo true, kids’ crap really does take up a lot of space, oy vey

  4. “they are also THE WORST to work for according to most people”

I disagree. I think many people just expect women to coddle them in a nurturing manner. I also think a lot of times it’s hard for a man to have to report to and work under women.

It took me a long time to reconcile the whole being nice enough to not turn people off but being assertive enough not to be looked at as a pushover or someone who didn’t command respect.

It was particularly difficult when I gained control of our Atlanta (TARP recipient) Branch. The men did NOT show me any respect initially. As I turned up the dial I got tagged as the “butch bitch from New York” (I kid you not). I’ll admit, I was NOT prepared for that sort of misogynistic environment. I had to manage them very differently than the New York office.
