    I don’tknow where you read that the Roman Senate was selected at Random every two years, but it is not correct. The Roman Senate was derived from the patrician class, and many served for many more years than two.

    I think what you are referring to is the Roman tribunes, who only served for two years and were supposed to represent the common folk.

    Very surprised (pleasantly) about MA senate seat, DIBS. Had nt been focused on it but it seems like the Repubs are well ahead in all of the polls. Not sure that it’s purely a referendum on healthcare but it’s certainly going to be an upheaval.

  3. I think we should switch to the ancient Roman Senate method of democracy… 600 folks chosen each year at random. You serve, then go home. Maybe make it two years, what with relocating to Washington and such. Oh, and women can be senators too.
