  1. also, can’t believe you are comparing your inability to get a yankees ticket with the plight of the working class. i see first hand everyday what some these people are dealing with. people with 2 jobs, sometimes more. trust me, their problems are worse than not getting into the yakees game.

  2. “Get your head out your brownstone ass for a minute and understand that economics has a life of its own, regardless of these crazy theories you cook up.”

Until it dies – and gets a “do over”

  3. No, DIBS, the pay-my-mortgage comment was in response to Legion’s claim that stagnant wages have no real-world quality of life repercussions, and that a frank discussion about economic injustices was really only a tool to ‘foster dischord.’ i was saying that was as crazy as expecting he should pay my mortgage to avoid dischord.

  4. cmu,

again, you are not getting my basic premise, so I will spell it out for you and stevieb.

you say that a widening wage gap and “rich and poor” status in america is evidence of something gone wrong.

I say, it is an integral (not always fair) part of a capitalist society which values upward mobility and actually encourages it. You don’t have to buy in though if you don’t want to.

I say that the quality of life for the “poor” in America is not necessarily a Dickensian squalor as it is in Brazil for example, but a more subtle difference.
if you are poor, you can still fly in a plane.
if you are poor, you still get 3 meals a day.
if you are poor, you can still drive a car.
if you are poor, you can still make yourself not poor.

the end point of your arguments are that the rich have somehow taken something away from the middle class in the past 30 years. when in fact, what we have lost is the manufacturing base due to much more complex factors of globalization and improved standard of living expectations.
even when we had the manufacturing base, people didn’t live as well as they did today in comparison to the wealthy.
in the 50’s you couldn’t just hop a flight to Florida for 99 dollars. You were lucky to even have one family car.

  5. What’s with the bitterness kens, legion and DIBS?

Stop and appreciate what you have, you can afford [literally and figuratively] to be a little more generous to your fellow humans.

  6. “The republicans coerced us into sending millions of jobs overseas”

The ignorance of some people on this site is astounding. Stop staring at your navel and realize that we are in a global economy. Have you recently checked where your Sony or Panasonic TV is made? Malaysia – not Japan. In the past 10 years, most Italian textile plants have shifted their production from their home base to Asia. ALL of the advanced economies have shifted alot of their production to Asia, REGARDLESS of who was in control of the government. Most of the governments in Europe are far to the left of that in the US, and the same damn thing has happened. The largest automobile manufacturer in China is Volkswagon.

Get your head out your brownstone ass for a minute and understand that economics has a life of its own, regardless of these crazy theories you cook up.
