The republicans coerced us into sending millions of jobs overseas, and while this increased the profits at big corporations and boosted stock prices, hurt ordinary americans who dont hold as much equity as a percentage of their net worth as the wealthy.
Moreover, with the dividend tax cuts, the profits that showed up at big corporations were transferred easily to the wealthy who held the shares for a long time. This is legalized theft and not obvious to most people unless you have the time to connect the dots.

Legalized theft????? Just because you don’t own any stock the dividends have been “stolen” from the ordinary Americans?????
I haven’t heard this much bullshit since yesterday when everyone was talking about how good the Yankees pitching and hitting was.
who’s arguing there aren’t any differences between classes?
there are surely differences, it’s just that in America, if you are poor you can still get three meals a day and live in a brownstone just like the rich.
tell me I’m wrong.
tell me there aren’t people of upper and lower classes living side in this city.
what you would like is an automatic front row ticket.
nice try.
I wanted a ticket to the Yankees game yesterday.
couldn’t get it.
guess I should just call all those people in the stadium a bunch of rich, exclusionary types.lol.
Legion: I’m NOT “treating the classes a set population,”…that would imply I’m using specific groups to prove my point.
It’s an overall statistic: “the top 300000 earn more than the bottom 150 million” (NYT) for instance is a statistic. What’s to argue with that? If you think it’s OK, I can’t argue with you, but I think income disparity of this nature, and which is increasing, is unacceptable.
And afa “overall improvement in standard of living” is concerned, that was true in every decade from the Depression until the 90’s. I’m sure I can dig up a citation, but it has NOT happened since then. Indicators (except perhaps house size) shows a Lowering of the s-o-l.
“to foster discord between members of our society in order to advance political ideology”…I widh I could, if not discord, at least outrage. But only the Republican media-wonks are good at doing that, and falsely at that, not us lefties.
Legion, the gap between the rich and poor in this country is the widest since post WW II, and accelerated in the past decade with the republican policies of estate, dividend, income, corporate tax cuts as well as deregulating everything.
