  1. Kens, I grew up in Canada, so I suppose it’s all a matter of perspective. I feel I’m coming from a place with a much better system than the US and you’re coming from a totally opposite place, so it’s understandable we might feel differently. It’s interesting how one’s views are so dependant on one’s benchmark for comparison.

  2. kensingtonian,

    I have a friend from an old USSR satellite republic. you just summed up his opinion exactly.
    My opinion is that we have to decide which of the following is the most basic of human qualities;
    fear or laziness
    because both lead to a jackboot on the back of our necks and both are found in far too much abundance in a complacent population.
    namely the USA.

  3. Herk, the awards were announced the other day (Tuesday, maybe?). The Ultimate PLUSA would be the one who could name the winners and honourable mentions in each category. Not even I could do that.

  4. “You’re being too modest Biff (also a very Clooney-like quality, I might add).”

    With all due respect to Montrose, how is it even possible that Herk didn’t win the Most Eloquent (and Visually Impaired) Poster award ???

  5. Slopefarm;

    As usual, you make some good points. From a techncial point of view, you are right: no one can stop me from posting whatever I damn please here, so maybe I should clarify my point further.

    One participates in a community when one feels that their views are given a respectful hearing. That statement perhaps sums up my issue the best. Take a look at what happened on that OT, and you tell me who was being respectful to whom. You’re a smart guy, and I’m sure you know that there is a sociological phenomenon for how communities self-enforce (as an engineer, I don’t know the term, but I think you know what I’m talking about).

    See you around. I plan to be at the Union Bar, but on the late side.
