I firmly believe that ANY Fundamentalist Christian group or any religious organization that gets involved in politics and politicking needs to have its tax-exempt status revoked.
Oddly etson, I’m not conversant enough on the bible to say much about what it says in the tiny details. Most of my problem with them comes for their viewpoints clashing with the fundamentals of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. I don’t know what or if anything is said about gays really in the bible- but my deepest belief is that if you are a citizen of this country and you fulfill all the responsibilities of a citizen, you are entitled to be treated exactly the same as any other citizen. What I don’t believe is that a minister or a priest should be forced to perform a religious marriage but we have civil marriages anyway.
Fundamentalists seem to have coalesced more and more around the idea that life begins at the moment of conception and in some cases many find even birth control a sin. Traditional Jewish belief was that life begins with the drawing of the first breath. For myself i think that’s a little late but it’s also how you define life and though I can probably be accused of bio-metaphysical confusion, My interpretation is very different. But be that as it may, I don’t believe society has the right to hijack a woman’s body and it renders us unequal under the law to do so.
” try to ignore them, in the hope of not alienating that powerful wing of the party, they are losing their chance of getting back into power for a very, very long time. I happen to think a viable opposition keeps everyone honest. That is not possible at the moment.”
I always find it amusing when folks who have no interest in a party give it ‘advice” for how to regain power.
I stand by my statements above. In particular, your comment about Fundamentalist Christians is offensive and intolerant.
Others may be impressed by your eloquence, but I am not.

What MM said.
The bio discussion took us well ahead of the Willy thread.
