We stopped by the grand opening this morning of Crumb’s Bakery at 109 Montague Street, an event that the Brooklyn Heights Blog has been covering with breathless anticipation. Although it wasn’t exactly hopping this morning, it is a little early for a cupcake. If anyone stops in today, lets us know how it is! GMAP

  1. “DH – have you ever been to Crumbs?”

yeah – i’ve been to crumbs. i’m not a big sweets guy so i won’t comment on their quality vs other places. i’m sure it will do well

i just wish montague would get some better retail. it really has the potential to be a great retail strip – but instead mirrors 3rd ave on the UES.

  2. bultrey, truce. I think it’s original in it’s own way. It is America’s first suburb, after all. 🙂
But I’ll be the first to admit it’s not for everyone.

And sincere question, as I do like exploring other neighbourhoods (including BedStuy). In addition to Saraghina’s, can you recommend some other favourites in BS?

  3. Fair enough, Biff. I never said the surrounding area surrounding BH didn’t have good restaurants. I never said it wasn’t beautiful and serene. I said it, and Crumbs, are banal. Google dictionary search sums it up best: “So lacking in originality as to be obvious and boring.”

Didn’t mean to dump on BH. It’s tree-lined and pleasant. I might like to live there in 20 years or so, if I ever write that Great American Novel.
