We stopped by the grand opening this morning of Crumb’s Bakery at 109 Montague Street, an event that the Brooklyn Heights Blog has been covering with breathless anticipation. Although it wasn’t exactly hopping this morning, it is a little early for a cupcake. If anyone stops in today, lets us know how it is! GMAP

  1. I’m glad they’re opened a little later. I know everyone hates Brooklyn Heights and, indeed, the shops and restaurants suck. But one unsung thing about living in Brooklyn Heights is the tradition of the after-dinner walk on the promenade. You gotta eat at home, and buy crappy ice cream from Mike at the Mister Softee truck, but it still feels very old world to go out at night with the kids and run into a dozen people you know. You can’t argue about the view.

I miss having the bookstore to wander into at night — even tho it sucked too.

  2. babs, I think macaroons can’t catch on to the same extent. Being coconut based immediately eliminates a large segment of consumers. Still not sure how Mounds stays in business.
