We stopped by the grand opening this morning of Crumb’s Bakery at 109 Montague Street, an event that the Brooklyn Heights Blog has been covering with breathless anticipation. Although it wasn’t exactly hopping this morning, it is a little early for a cupcake. If anyone stops in today, lets us know how it is! GMAP

  1. stopped in on the way home. nice and clean two people ahead of me on line. sweet young ladies behind the counter maybe a little inexperienced with MAJOR LEAGUES of cupcakes.
I order a rainbow sprinkles cookie and two, yes two, chocolate cupcakes with white icing. I also sample a few little teeny cupcakes at the counter, hey they’re free, they don’t count as ANY points with weight watchers.
    The cookie was HEAVEN.
    The cupcake was very nice.
I cannot go back in there until September 15, 2011.

  2. late to this, but ive tried MANY of these cupcakes, not at some of the places in this thread mentioned, but some, and have had sugar sweet sunshine cuz work gets them for birthdays… i really dont like them. i know i have trashy taste in food, but gimme a duncan heines school bakesale cupcake ANY day. and frosting str8 from the can? MMMMmMMmM i dont like the frosting on these cupcake shoppes’. and yeah they are big an obnoxious and overpriced like an SUV, so they offer “minis” f0ck that, the minis are just teeny tiny small obnoxious things where you need to eat for. and at like 2 dollars each that’s 8 bux. um no!.

whatever happened to a regular sized cupcake!

    *rob*

  3. see I don’t want a cupcake with bacon and bourbon
old school cupcakes are vanilla/vanilla or vanilla chocolate
you can get into all the other flavors like carrot/spice/banana/red velvet
but BACON and BOURBON? OY OY OY – why does everything have to be bumped up to like “foodie status” with sophisticated tastebuds – good grief

OK BLUE APRON was TOTALLY open in South slope on 7th and 15th for a few years, but I do think they closed and another little shop opened in it’s place called Grab – sorry!

  4. “wtf is retro flavor?”

Well okay, it was my awkward way of saying that purchasing a delicious overpriced cupcake made in a bakery brings back memories of the Pillsbury cake mix cupcakes my mom made for me many moons ago. Gimme a break!
