This rental at 70 Washington combines two apartments for whopping total of 2,119 square feet of space, with a pretty sleek design to boot. This is listed as a two-bedroom with a nursery and office, and there are three whole bathrooms. For a family looking for a place to settle in between homes this feels like a nice option. But it must not be seeing a lot of interest, as the price dropped $500 two weeks ago to, gulp, $8,500 a month. What do ya think?

  1. Reading that 2119 square feet is “whopping,” I’m very pleased that I bought my brownstone in Crown Heights South 34 years ago. Even today, one gets a hell of a lot more bang for the buck here. My place is over 3000 sq ft. Granted there are no local restaurants and bars to speak of, but for the difference in price, you can have a car (house as a garage also) and drive to eat or drink wherever you want. Of course, if you want to get soused, you’d better take a cab or a designated driver. Since I’m too old to enjoy getting drunk, that’s not a problem for me.

  2. Snappy, you’re absolutely right when you’re talking about a single person with no kids. But for families, having a large master bedroom is a godsend. It gives you a place, away from the common family area, where you can close the door and get away from it all, even when you’re NOT either sleeping or f**king: a place to read, watch TV, relax after taking a bath in your ensuite bathroom … believe me, there’s a definite attraction. Of course, I’d STILL want my living room to be even bigger than my bedroom!

11217, you can read in bed. Couches are for living rooms 🙂

i love having a couch in my bedroom (of course i sleep on it as well). it’s multifunctional. i like to consider my bedroom a mini studio without plumbing.

personally i think beds are stupid.

  4. 🙂 11217, I’ve tried to fit 5-6 folks in my apt. a few times…it wasn’t comfy at all! Now I don’t do it mostly because I know they won’t fit 🙁 I had a couch in my bedroom when I first moved in here. Not even the cat sat on it so away it went.

Noki, you are right. People think it’s a grand and great idea, until they actually do it and then see that said couch becomes a glorified dust catcher/laundry holder.
