Rental of the Day: 489 Henry Street
Wowza! This five-bedroom, four-bathroom townhouse rental at 489 Henry Street in Cobble Hill is really something. The listing (which comes straight outta the Brownstoner Marketplace) boasts a 20-foot-high open atrium, complete with a ‘glass wall system’ that opens completely into the patio, backyard, and guesthouse. And, at 5,500 square feet, there’s plenty of space to spread out. The modern approach may not satisfy townhouse traditionalists, but the home is pretty green-friendly, with a solar power system. The ask is $18,000 a month, rental prices we’ve featured in Park Slope and Brooklyn Heights but not yet Cobble Hill. What do you think?

Rob, today you say it’s the epicenter, last week you argued with me that there was nothing special about NYC and claimed it was the epicenter of nothing. At least keep your stories straight so I know which personality to argue with today.

a zip lock baggy filled with bedbugs lol

11217 you completely missed my point. i said it’s the epicenter these days, as in the most glaring obvious way, of dictomy of the haves and have nots and it’s widening at a HUGE page here, moreso than elsewhere in the country, but the entire country IS headed in that direction if we keep this crazy stuff up. nice way to twist my words!

Well the location is certainly convenient — you are nearly across the street from the local Met grocery store, and right down the block from Pharmacy. But while the inside of the house is amazing, the curb appeal isn’t that great (at least from the photo — is it right next door to the stunning corner house I covet?)

it’s going to be filled with a lot of recessed personalities as well.

“and nyc seems to be the epicentric microcosm of this new american society”
Funny that you think now that you live here it’s becoming the epicenter. Most people have thought of NYC as the epicenter for many things for a couple hundred years now.
$18,000? What is that, like, $1 per recessed light monthly?
But seriously, this place has a lot of recessed lights.
Just because we wouldn’t/couldn’t pay this rent doesn’t mean someone won’t. I know an ex-McKinsey guy who moved with his wife and 3 kids to NYC for 18mos to start up a new telecom business. This would’ve been perfect for them. And as I’ve said before, British bankers love the Brooklyn brownstone vibe (and proximity to Wall St) and are used to paying much more in London for townhouse rentals.
