Rental of the Day: 489 Henry Street
Wowza! This five-bedroom, four-bathroom townhouse rental at 489 Henry Street in Cobble Hill is really something. The listing (which comes straight outta the Brownstoner Marketplace) boasts a 20-foot-high open atrium, complete with a ‘glass wall system’ that opens completely into the patio, backyard, and guesthouse. The listing (which comes straight outta the Brownstoner Marketplace) boasts a 20-foot-high open atrium, complete with a ‘glass wall system’ that opens completely into the patio, backyard, and guesthouse. And, at 5,500 square feet, there’s plenty of space to spread out. The modern approach may not satisfy townhouse traditionalists, but the home is pretty green-friendly, with a solar power system. The ask is $18,000 a month, rental prices we’ve featured in Park Slope and Brooklyn Heights but not yet Cobble Hill. What do you think?

The sad thing is, in Philadelphia, the same house would rent for like $3K. Maybe.
DIBS, I hear these 2 are on Mr B’s payroll. Think you and I should ask to be on the payroll too – ie we dont post for free when others are PAID
What can I say, Dave…I guess I’m a brownstoner masochist.
Great floorplan. Love that little studio in the back.
You have a very warped sense of what green means. The place is not new, it’s 150 years old. They’ve apparently tried to make this house more energy efficient. That’s what green means. It doesn’t mean that they should live like priests or have 27 people living in it. All it means is that it has things which cut down on the carbon footprint compared to other 100 plus year old homes.
You turn green into this weird social/political thing and really it’s just supposed to be about living a little cleaner. Your view about it is like all those crazy Park Slopers you like to make fun of so much.
11217, when are you going to learn to disregard anything that rob has to say about real estate or paris or anything else or anywhere else he has absolutely no experience with.
On other matters he can occassionally be useful and right, ocassionally

but..but.. the selling point of this house is that it’s “green”. 3 or 4 other properties around the globe?! jesus christ.. talk about a carbon footprint the size of chastity bono’s foot. hypocrisy at it’s best.

Rob’s posts are all laced with jealousy. He makes fun of EVERYTHING, but has also announced he wish he were rich. It’s just kinda sad to hear someone tear everything to shreds because they’re jealous.
whatever dude. you act like being jealous of the rich is a bad thing or some out there concept as if no one else is jealous of this. hells, im jealous of the poor as well sometimes. and im sorry but if i had parents who were spending 18K a month to live in boring ass cobble hill i’d go all amityville horror on their asses. like someone stated above, there’s a ton of better things to throw away ones money on. it just seems silly to me that people are so willing to accept insane prices.. you know it all trickles down right? if a 5 bedroom can get 18K then okay everyone else in the hood can get away with renting a 1 bedroom for 4K. it’s absurd and should be stoppped. it’s not about jealousy, it’s about sanity tempered with a bit of utter confusion with our species.

high rent aside, this place is super nice though.
