  1. >>We are a nation of laws and should never leave that high ground.

So true. thanks for saying this, Wasder.

Lets not allow the terrorists to change our values and give in to the lowest common denominator. Lets rise to the challenge and by the shining city on the hill that President Reagan wanted us to be.

  2. We are a nation of laws and should never leave that high ground. what happened to our war prisoners in other countries should have no bearing on what happens to the people in our jurisdiction. Stooping to the level of other societies is what muddied the waters for us morally in the Iraq war and in the response to 9/11.

lol, tell it to President Obama,
    he’s the one on tape saying the following in defense of his attorney general’s decision to try them in civilian courts;

“…when they are tried and put to death…”

at least I’m not the head of the executive branch of government, I’m just a concerned citizen who takes these admitted terrorists at their own words and confessions.

  4. >>Sure we should give them a trial, but in a military tribunal

Even the nazi war criminals received a trial at Nuremberg. Moreover, the genocidal criminals like charles taylor of Liberia and milocevich of yugoslavai are tried by the world court in brussels.

what do we have to be afraid of if we know we are in the right?? We should be the shining city on the hill, in Reagan’s words, and not be afraid to be exposed to the world.

    Bring it on!

  5. > I don’t think potential Al Quaeda recruits are concerned
    > about nuances like ‘detention without trial’.

Maybe. But as a denizen of an allegedly civilized nation, YOU should be.

  6. car gar,

    welcome to the dark side.
    muwha ha ha ha…….

    ditmassnark,

ok, so the new President goes on a world tour. he appologizes profusely. He states that he will close Guantanamo as a point of principle, as a departure from the previous administration. He makes his great Cairo speech…
and what is the response from our enemies?
a resounding silence. more empty promises from Iran. increased bombings in Afghanistan and more attempts at destabilization of a fragile Iraq.
Sure we should give them a trial, but in a military tribunal (if we could put a stop to the endless court challenges from far left groups) and without the constitutional rights of US citizens but the basic rights of war criminals (more than they gave US prisoners, have we heard of any surviving US prisoners?). Tried and convicted.
