Will somebody please put this listing out of its misery and buy it! The brownstone at 1418 Pacific Street in Crown Heights has been on the market for more than three years by our calculations. It was an Open House Pick in April 2007 when it was asking $999,999. The price now is down to $700,000, which has to be getting close to the market-clearing number given the amount of original architectural detail and the proximity to the Brooklyn Children’s Museum. What’s it gonna take?

I had no real problems when living in CH – do people in CH have the best gaydar ever? how do they know you’re gay?

The Hannah Montana hat would be a start.

painting an entire neighborhood as anti-gay, or for that matter, unsafe, is just not accurate. I’m sorry, but it is not.

but overall it IS an unsafe neighborhood. ESPECIALLY for gay men.

  3. Sluggita and rob and 11217,

I am not saying Crown Heights is perfect. It’s not. It’s just that in the ten years I have lived here, and I get around a lot, I have not met anyone who has had these problems. I’m not trying to sell this or any other property. Maybe my gay friends are fools, they don’t think so. They are all committed couples who have bought beautiful homes, and they are quite happy fixing them up and going about their lives. They walk their dogs in the neighborhood, go out together, and are all obvious couples. I have a lesbian friend who lives in a big apartment building with a hoody looking bunch who often hang out out front, and she has had no problems. What can I say? For them this is home. I know plenty of straight people who are also overjoyed with their homes and apartments. I meet them all the time at community meetings and events, and in stores and restaurants. I realize this is not a perfect neighborhood, but where is the perfect neighborhood? Heaven?

I do NOT feel I am selling anyone a bill of goods about my neighborhood. Anyone would be an utter fool to buy or rent anywhere without checking it, or anywhere else, first. People need to judge for them selves what their comfort level is in living in any neighborhood, not just this one. I do not deny others have not found it their cup of tea, I’m sorry. But to deny that many more do, is to me, just as disengenuous as to say the neighborhood is anti-gay, or anti-anything else. While there will always be those who don’t like people who are different from themselves, painting an entire neighborhood as anti-gay, or for that matter, unsafe, is just not accurate. I’m sorry, but it is not.

  4. You’re right, Rob.

In this case, I do agree with you. I’m just not used to it, so I was tentative. 🙂

But I actually HAVE been there many times and have tried to explore the area, but come nightfall, I’m ready to get the hell out of dodge.
