Will somebody please put this listing out of its misery and buy it! The brownstone at 1418 Pacific Street in Crown Heights has been on the market for more than three years by our calculations. It was an Open House Pick in April 2007 when it was asking $999,999. The price now is down to $700,000, which has to be getting close to the market-clearing number given the amount of original architectural detail and the proximity to the Brooklyn Children’s Museum. What’s it gonna take?

  1. I don’t know whether such a map exists. I think precinct crime statistics are just raw numbers with no addresses. Crown Heights obviously has a higher crime rate than other brownstone neighborhoods. I suspect the crime is concentrated in certain areas though. I know Errol Louis writes alot about the violence in his part of Crown Heights.

  3. Yes, I was thinking the same thing after just reading the story about the murder in Crown Heights. Personally, I wouldn’t want to live there because I have a son, and I would be worried about him all the time, but there are some beautiful blocks and I don’t think it is the killing field some make it out to be assuming you aren’t in a gang or buying drugs.

  4. Rob, I don’t doubt you that you felt unsafe there. But you said “it’s not a very gay friendly place. and that is a known fact.” Upon what do you base that statement? Do you have stats on hate crimes by neighbourhood? I’m asking sincerely; I’m just trying to figure out how you came to that conclusion. Is it anecdotal or can you cite real stats/studies.

  5. I was just talking about the immediate blocks around that house. We are talking about Pacific St at Brooklyn Ave, right? No murders right there in the past couple years. Of course, there are areas around there that look like a warzone. Fortunately, Kings County Hospital is very close and does amazing work with gunshot wounds which I why I would be more interested in consulting an assault, attemped homicide, and homicide map before spending my money on a house in that area.

  6. biff i dont know if your referring to me as not having any experience with this, like i said earlier i personally know someone who was brutally gay bashed in crown heights. and multiple people who broke leases because of it, exactly 11217 and his’ friends experience.

sorry but walking around certain neighborhoods as a gay person there is a huge target on your back!

and one need not being wearing a hannah montana backpack OR a long blonde wig to feel it.

  7. I’m not understanding your point, Jaguar. That map seems to indicate that the majority of murders in Brooklyn take place in the Crown Heights/Bed Stuy/Brownsville/ENY/Bushwick corridor.
