House of the Day: 105 St. Marks Avenue
For a house that is described in the listing as “flawless and gracious,” 105 St. Marks Avenue could do with some more photos. (Update: When we wrote this up on Friday there were only four small photos. They’ve got a lot more up now!) Sure, the three interior shots provided look nice, but for all…

(Update: When we wrote this up on Friday there were only four small photos. They’ve got a lot more up now!) Sure, the three interior shots provided look nice, but for all we know the rest of the house could be a warren of small rooms with dropped ceilings and recessed lighting! Seriously though, show us your stuff, especially when you are asking $2,500,000 for a house in Prospect Heights, a bold move in this market. We’re not saying this couldn’t be a $2,500,000 house, but we need a little more convincing.

i agree with the pigeon. both can work, obviously. also shiny shiny shiny floors like that are much more more subdued when the rooms are furnished.
i would give my left nut to have a shiny floor like that, but then again im sure most 13 year olds dont need such a shiny floor in their bedroom :-/

“I’m more a fan of the brass gas/electric combo chandeliers, which is what I have. I also have the push button switches with the repousse brass plates, which I really love.”
I like those, too, Dave. My late father had incredible brass chandeliers in his house which I would’ve loved for my Brownstone. But I also love the look of cut crystal chandeliers on the Parlor Floor.
“Sometimes more is more.”
I agree, ML.
I guess it’s largely a matter of taste.
I like both ends of the brownstone interior spectrum: the gungy-old worn look, and the high-society look.
(In-between can be nice, too.)
Either look can work, if done right.
I think even recessed lighting can work in a brownstone if the lighting style matches the interior (even though I’m not fond of track lighting).
oh and thank you cgar and minard. OBVIOUSLY some folks arent classy like us!

And I think the chandeliers thay have here need to be upgraded, except in the rental unit.
BKinite, fine. point well-taken. perhaps from now on ill try to start sounding more adult-like. :-/
other than the sometimes occassional name-dropping of hannah montana, i cant for the life of me imagine what makes me sound like a 13 year old. am i 13 because i cant think of a gazillion better things to do with 2.5 million dollars!? i mean seriously, stop being such an age-ist.
on that note, ill try to make a conscientious decision to start posting like an adult proper for now on, whatever that means. you do know that people are all different right? isnt “diversity” what makes people want to plop a gazillion dollars down on crappy old houses in brooklyn? oh yeah, that’s totally not true and people with that much money to afford are just phonies. grrrrr you can’t win with some posters!
im not a moron, and ive been thru a hell of a lot of life experiences that some people who trash talk could ever dare go thru.

I love cut crystal chandeliers and gilded mirrors, Minard.
Kimcheater has spilled the beans.
Thank you Kimcheater.
