This new listing at 158 Saint Johns Place is impressive, both in look and price. The current owner paid $2,500,000 for the five-story brownstone in 2008 and then, apparently, went to town on the renovation. Given the quality of the job, it’s hard to imagine there’s much of a profit margin left, despite the current asking price of $3,249,000. For people who care about this kind of thing, the floorplan is particularly interesting to look at in terms of layout decisions.

  1. What I’d like to know is what industries are these people in that they can afford to plunk down a cool 2 mil on a property in ’08, do a high end renno which I’m sure cost them tons more and then turn around and are ready to sell 3 years later??

Educate me please Brownstoners….open up my world…..what are the rest of us not doing or rather not doing right?!?!?

DIBS – good point, but I’m not prepared to give up the food or my libidinous desires so I’ll have to use a grout bleach pen.

    Small price to pay.

  3. “I just like to get into the heads of the really rich (most of whom neither cook or eat)”

This statement is just flat out wrong. I live on a block of 3 million dollar homes and I run into my neighbors at Union Market or Blue Apron regularly. Why would you think they don’t cook? It’s so absurd. You have the WEIRDEST thoughts (and obsession) with “rich” people.

They also go to GASP, Key Food and even do their own laundry! When they’re feeling REALLY crazy, they come out to garden and even talk to us peon neighbors who live in tiny apartments. THE HORROR!!!

  4. Would folks still think that the 3rd floor Jack-n-Jill bathroom layout is odd if the entire floor were a master suite (e.g., master bedroom in the front and study in the back)? I’m thinking about using a similar configuration in a master suite situation but am hesitant because it seems a little weird.
