This new listing at 158 Saint Johns Place is impressive, both in look and price. The current owner paid $2,500,000 for the five-story brownstone in 2008 and then, apparently, went to town on the renovation. Given the quality of the job, it’s hard to imagine there’s much of a profit margin left, despite the current asking price of $3,249,000. For people who care about this kind of thing, the floorplan is particularly interesting to look at in terms of layout decisions.

surb dude, not so sure about your figures. Most my friends who own in boros pay less than I and am in a one bedroom in CH.
I see two kitchens. The hotel-sized kitchen downstairs and the caterer’s kitchen upstairs.
The downstairs kitchen reminds me of those watches that are in style now that are the size of a wall clock strapped to one’s wrist. Why would one want a watch that big? Why would one want a kitchen that big? With the bonus kitchen upstairs? and no closets in the bedrooms.
It is a lovely house and it is on a great block. I just like to get into the heads of the really rich (most of whom neither cook or eat) to try and understand their effect on the culture at large. Two words: Think Big!!!
The tub is smack in the master bedroom. Now, when I splurged and stayed at the Standard (house was being painted) I enjoyed the hip tub in the room thing. But at home? All the time? No thanks.
Hate the kitchen with a passion almost darker and more detailed than those cabinets. When did brownstone kitchens start to look like they were ripped out of the Toll Brother’s “Majestic Elm Executive Model”? But at least the kitchen is on the correct floor.
Tub in the master bedroom = badass!
DIBS – good point, but I’m not prepared to give up the food or my libidinous desires so I’ll have to use a grout bleach pen.
$3 million house with $6,000 property taxes. Meanwhile, the great unwashed in The Bronx, Queens, Staten Island and most of Brooklyn who own $400,000 to $500,000 houses pay $3,000 (or more) property taxes. I have no idea why there hasn’t been a lawsuit, and how this is allowed to continue.
Your right 11217 this is a great block… Now I have to wonder how this block will be effected by Atlantic Yards… Right now the traffic is somewhat good but will became like a Manhattan cross street?
Beautiful house. I’m sure it will be gone, even with that whopping big price, in no time.
I like the general feel of the kitchen, and it complements the house, not competes with it. Some of those equally high end laboratories just don’t work, impressive as they may be. This one is on the border, but the cabinets and tile work pull it back. Perhaps too much tile, but I’ve seen period kitchens with that amount of tile. Only difference is that the tile is not quite as glaringly white 100 years later. Makes a big difference.
A lot of people wouldn’t go with the tubs in the room, I wouldn’t, but hey, I’m just a tourist here.
I love this house. That block is incredible.
