Bad News for Bed Stuy Bodegas
From a Bed-Stuy Patch article written by a real estate broker: “Let your friends know you heard it here first: Bed Stuy mixed-use property is about to explode. When this happens, start the clock on your local bodegas. Because in about five years, their time will be up.” Photo by gkjarvis

*rob* for someone who goes by the name Butterfly you seem awfully mean spirited, hey.
My mom and uncle both died in 2007, drowned in the Mississippi when their pick up was thrown off the collapsing I-35W bridge while delivering our home-baked heritage pocket apple strudel bars to innercity Minneapolis grocers.
Very simple market determinant in Bed Stuy – the bodegas that truly deliver what their customers want and therefore provide a true service to the neighborhood will stay. Those that sell “overpriced crap” that no one buys won’t survive. The neighborhood residents will determine who stays and goes, which is as it should be.
(Am excited to read the next 50 posts of this stupid argument as to the merits or drawbacks of bodegas – obviously, they serve some sort of use or they would be out of business)
I’d love more amenities here in Crown Heights too. We’re slowly getting there but Bed-Stuy is well ahead of us in fine restaurants and interesting little shops. People in my neighborhood would love better and more produce and food shopping choices- We do have a somewhat renovated Key Food, a Metro and Foodtown, which is a few blocks away. But we would love more fresh produce places and to see Nostrand renovated.
Ishtar- where is the new food co op going to be?
No one mentioned anything about wanting all bodegas out.
Thanks for the info!
wasder, i dont question WHY people live in bed stuy. why would I? there’s only two reasons people live in bed stuy.

rob, you don’t understand the issue.
bodegas sell sub par crap at overly high prices.
no, YOU dont understand MY point. i was railing against the post that is saying ALL BODEGAS GET OUT! 1.) i do not buy my groceries at bodegas 2.) bodegas beer and cigarettes are WAY cheaper than the fauxdegas and organic little mini marts. that is my point!

It’s named after the sound a goose makes… WAAAAAA, WAAAAAA.
Or you know, the sound benson emits when he wakes up.
