Budget-friendly options for roof door alarm?
You mean walking on the roof, not attempts at entering the building through the roof hatch? I would love to know this too.

We have a small multifamily and would like to discourage people from going on the roof, as well warned if someone has come in from the roof possibly off a neighboring roof. I’ve looked online and saw a few systems but they are really expensive. It is a full standard stairway up to the roof and bulkhead. Anybody have a reasonably priced suggestion for an alarm for the roof door? Ideally something simple we can install, but also not super easy to disable or get around.

you can add something like this to an existing steel fireproof door: http://www.1800doorbell.com/alarm-250-exit-panic-alarm-deadbolt-lock.htm?gclid=CPuE3LS7t8YCFVc7gQodfaoH0g

Several catalogues offer battery-powered magnetic gizmos that sound an alarm when the magnets are separated as a door is opened or a window is lifted. I got some years ago for a few windows & they worked well. Maybe you can Google it.
