Let’s hope this is not indicative of what’s to come in the summer months…1010 Wins reported that three teenagers were shot and seriously wounded yesterday afternoon near the intersection of Franklin and President Streets in Crown Heights. The three teens were shot at by a gunman on the roof of a building. The shooting happened at 3:30 p.m.—just as school children were probably on their way home. Great. Update: Looks like there was also a triple-shooting on East 16th Street last night. Ugh.

TD….actually in my section of CHS we have a strong police presence and officers at many of our corners. See police on patrol is the norm for me and my neighbors.

For what it’s worth, the difference between a crew and a gang appears to depend upon who you’re asking.
For many, there is no difference at all, it is simply a different way of saying the same thing (i.e. fat or overweight). For others, a crew connotes groups of teenagers and young adults who share common turf and/or neighborhood, an interest in it, and an interest in similar activities, while a gang means violence, drugs, turf wars and so on.
I also hope this is not the start of another summer of destruction. It’s usually the innocent who get hurt, and who wants to live in a war zone.
In the old days, admittedly when I was in the cradle, gangs would fight it out with bats and knives. Not cool, either, getting beat to death or knifed, but less collateral damage to the innocent. Today, they just start shooting. I’m told by someone I know who knows how to properly use guns, that the tv/video/movie image of the wannabe hoodlum shooting with the gun sideways, looking all evil and bad, is part of the reason they miss, and part of the reason innocent people get killed. Until we as a society stop this infatuation with firepower, and stop the state’s rights laws regarding gun sales, we are going to have shootings and death all around. Popular culture deserves some blame here, but personal responsibility needs to be amped up. This is just wrong, and shouldn’t be tolerated by anyone.
