Brooklyn burger lovers rejoice: Shake Shack has finally decided to shack up in our borough. The Daily News reported yesterday the popular burger and shake joint will be in the Fulton Mall next year. While it would have been cool to see them in the old Gage and Tollner spot, the restaurant will be moving into Tony’s Famous Pizza at the corner of Fulton and Adams, right outside of the Jay Street subway. Seems like a fail-proof location to us. Shake Shack is just the latest of new arrivals to the Fulton Mall; Filene’s, SYMS, H&M and Aeropostal are also on the roster. Think Fulton Mall could be Brooklyn’s next destination spot?

Not that I am there during the day, but will great to push the gov’t/court lunch crowd off of Montague and towards the mall…
Fascinating re the Pratt study. I wonder how rents and profit margins compare between the two.
Dave, as you know, I would not be caught dead in a Suburu. And I like kale and brown rice with my burger, fries, shake, and red wine, thank you very much. Geez, what is wrong with people?
I doubt it. That Pratt sudy from a couple of years ago stated the psf was v. close to Soho which was already full of larger “yuppie” stores.
But they might take more space on upper floors, where my understanding is that the psf drops, in comparison to buildings where the primary retail is smaller and only one floor.
“For those who are ragging on Fulton Mall – isn’t it the highest grossing psf shopping area in all of Brooklyn??”
I would think that the new yuppie stores could bring in even more psf. No?
“old people hate waiting in lines”
With less time left, we can be choosy how we spend it.
Shake shack burgers are good, but what makes the original a destination is that it is located in a park. Not many other burger joints like that. This new place will do well but I don’t see it being a “destination spot”.
love shake shack. they have a great and pretty authentic chicago style hotdog (only difference is they use regular sweet relish vs. the neon green stuff).
I enjoy the Madison Square Shake Shack, but I wouldn’t say it revitalized Madison Square. I lived on 22nd and East Broadway when Madison Square was still a no-go zone. Two years later in 1998, I was pushing my daughter on the swings in that very park. The move to clean it up synched with the real estate market in that vicinity. That’s what lured Shake Shack there. Don’t know what the Fulton appeal is.
