Although the 77th Precinct maintains a map detailing the locations of recent crimes, no such visual rendering is available online. Some folks on Brooklynian’s Prospect Heights message board are trying to change that. They’ve set up a map that allows anyone to report muggings or other violent incidents in the neighborhood, and they’ve also added data from published crime reports. Seems like a great community resource, though you have to wonder how many inaccurate or overblown reports are going to find their way into the mix. Nevertheless, neat stuff.

  1. i find it funny some people really dont understands that the people posting the muggings only live in the area of northern park slope and prospect heights. Thats why they’re all there. It was started by the prospect heights forum.

    ok carry on…

  2. @7:51 – the map is maintained by people living in Prospect Heights and Park Slope. The lack of muggings shown in PLG doesn’t mean they aren’t happening…it just means nobody is tracking them on this map.

  3. Amazing, isn’t it?

How there’s almost close no muggings in Lefferts Gardens (or its border along the park) compared to Park Slope?

How the lack of muggings even Flatbush and East Flatbush?

I knew buying a brownstone in on Rutland Road was a great idea.

  4. You’re still a ShitTwit, 6:45.

Statistically, you would be more likely to be mugged in Park Slope than a bad neighborhood.

The muggers go to where the money is, which is not in a poor neighborhood.

People in poor neighborhoods are victims of crime, but it is often not muggings but more violent crimes and – statistically – is it perpetrated by someone the victim already knows before the crime (spouse, family member, bf/gf)

So, 6:45, that is why you are a ShitTwit.

Oh, I’m sorry 5:57PM for bursting your “Diversity is Strength” bubble/fantasy world!

Perhaps I should only discuss grandmas and puppy dogs in the future, so as not to disturb you!
