Although the 77th Precinct maintains a map detailing the locations of recent crimes, no such visual rendering is available online. Some folks on Brooklynian’s Prospect Heights message board are trying to change that. They’ve set up a map that allows anyone to report muggings or other violent incidents in the neighborhood, and they’ve also added data from published crime reports. Seems like a great community resource, though you have to wonder how many inaccurate or overblown reports are going to find their way into the mix. Nevertheless, neat stuff.

  1. Every sensible Brooklynite knows not to walk on Prospect Park West after dark -are you kidding? Even if you live on Prospect Park West you detour around and reach your home on a sidestreet. Geez, that is Brooklyn 101.

  2. Wow, hard to believe people would pay millions of dollars for a house in this crime filled neighborhood. You can get mugged in Brownsville or East New York just the same for much cheaper house prices.

  3. And you guys think MY neighborhood is dangerous!

No unicorns in PLG either, but many 17th century sightings of sea serpents in the vicinity of present-day Lefferts Ave. and Sterling Street {Gee–I guess PLG IS more dangerous–I’d rather encounter a unicorn than a sea serpent 🙁 ]

  4. Carlton and St. Marks is a great location. One of the best in PH. I think you’ll enjoy it there as well.

I saw a house listed right around there recently so if it’s the one I’m thinking, good luck..it looks liked a BEAUTY!!
