Although the 77th Precinct maintains a map detailing the locations of recent crimes, no such visual rendering is available online. Some folks on Brooklynian’s Prospect Heights message board are trying to change that. They’ve set up a map that allows anyone to report muggings or other violent incidents in the neighborhood, and they’ve also added data from published crime reports. Seems like a great community resource, though you have to wonder how many inaccurate or overblown reports are going to find their way into the mix. Nevertheless, neat stuff.

This map means nothing. Zero.

You know, a lot of streets are darker than I ever imagined. I’m visiting Park Slope, and yesterday I took an evening stroll around the North Slope. It was about 7pm, and as I made my way down Prospect Place between 6th & 5th Aves, I noticed it was pitch black. No lights. I can’t remember ever being on such a dark street so early in the evening. It was unsettling.
Maybe the Park lends to it too because you can slip in there and disappear…
it seems that a lot of muggers like to go around north slope on those quiet streets at night to get the brownstone owned wealthy people.
7:14, you’re wrong… most criminals don’t have the gumption to actually travel to another neighborhood. That would be work. Most criminals are lazy and stick up folx in their own hood. Besides, they also know that if they stick up Black folk they’ll get away with it, while if they stick up white folk on PPW the police will decide to investigate…
