LeBernadin was excellent for a night out, no doubt. But I found myself stopping off at Gray’s Papaya later in the evening.
The fine dining experience is certainly a thrill but making an inexpensive neighborhood place the routine is much more fulfilling.
Ask Bourdain, that’s what his No Reservations is all about.
There used to be an excellent German place on Metropoltan in Ridgewood ; Neidersteins, a hundred years old, now it’s an Arbys.

The reason I don’t like Bouley and Jean georges and Vong is because its all about the show and the noise. Yes, the food is good (not so much at Vong anymore) but the food, the wine and the service is not cntral to the experience anymore. It is at La grenouille. try it with a date sometime. She’ll be very impressed.
