My nephew is graduating from a good college this year. His parents paid for it all, maybe $250,000 all in (fuck!). He has always been coddled and sheltered and told he was smart and not allowed to fail (in the sense that he was sheltered from failure, not that he was forced to succeed). He has never gotten in any trouble of any kind.
Tomorrow he flies into New York for an interview for a paralegal job with a law firm, which I guess he sees as the next step before going to law school or something like that. I just spoke to him and he sounds completely uninterested in the job. He sounds uninterested in anything. A 22 year old who is just going through the motions to become a white drone.
I just told my wife I think he needs to be taken out, gotten completely wasted and taken to a strip club. She agrees. He’ll be hung over for his interview, but that’s OK.
Then he should join the military. Maybe after drinking and lap dances we can stop by the recruiting station in Times Square.
His parents may never speak to me again, but at least I will have saved the poor child from a life of predictable misery.
I was going through some old Economists and read that the Argentinean government is producing fake inflation statistics for their cost of living indexes, a la 10% a year when independent researchers are coming up with numbers that approach 25%. The lower number allows the gov’t to pay less on inflation-indexed bonds. And the Commerce Sec’y Moreno is fining and shutting down these the independent research agencies, whose research the world respects and accepts.
As much as I love the romantic, exotic fantasy of living down in BA, I know myself. I couldn’t stand living in a place that actually had these kind of thugs and a$$holes running the country.

UBS raised their estimate for SP500 earnings this year to $101. That puts the market at 13.2 times. Cheap.
