  1. quote:
“wendy, what sayeth you about Scott’s biblical quotations????”
I agree that they’re correctly quoted.
And I only submit when I want to. 😉

Don’t listen to her. She knows who the boss is.

  2. “I don’t think any society has ever found the perfect way of doing it.”

The ones that tried to do it in a vacuum (i.e. without reference to human nature or tradition) ended up being the most tyrannical.

  3. ET, I was going to do a getaway to Cartagena but we scrapped that idea when we decided to move.

New idea for the summer is a houseboat rental on the Erie canal. You can get these great 40+ foot houseboats, 2 full bedrooms, kitchen, bathrooms, etc. and chug up and down the old canal (and through locks) to your heart’s delight. Bbq on deck with gin & tonics in the evening (or just stop by some little village and try the local restaurant).

Idea is to spend a day or two on the canal and then sail down to one of the finger lakes and spend a couple of days chugging up and down one of the lakes.

  4. “The US already allows certain Jewish groups to use religious law in their own courts- but it is very restricted as to what those laws can apply to”

Interesting, I did not know this.
    Have any the examples?

Without any additional information, this does not seem like something I would consider to be a “good thing.”

  5. “I don’t think there is any value-neutral way of assessing what ‘makes sense’. ”

That is one of the weaker points of democracy. I don’t think any society has ever found the perfect way of doing it.
