OMG, lech, I’ve always wanted to do those houseboats!
We’re going away in October to Europe and in May to CA. Both times for about a month.
I want to take Hubs for his b’day somewhere within the next two weeks….and not spend lots of $.
“The ones that tried to do it in a vacuum (i.e. without reference to human nature or tradition) ended up being the most tyrannical.”
Without getting into the history of constitutions, that makes some sense.
I would probably replace tyrannical with the more generic “broken” (which certainly includes tyrannical).
Laws meant to govern humans have to take those humans into account.
“I can already see from your posts that you are set to defend Sharia law but willing to critique Christianity at the drop of a dime.”
Then you’re blind, legion.
And you’re ignoring quite a few facts about fundamentalist Christianity. Christianity happens to be the most powerful religion on the US, South America, and Europe. In terms of my people, it has been the most abusive. What exactly do you think the current onslaught against women’s right to choose is all about? It’s about pandering to the religious right. Sorry if that offends you, but there it is.
I expect every religion to be subjected to a rigorous critiquing if they want to affect the laws of this country but you’re the one who constantly makes comments about Islam and sharia law, while overlooking the influence of Christian groups on the law.
We are at war with radical Islamists- who are one miniscule group in Islam. You make it sound like only Muslims seek to hurt us- yet they just arrested a member of a white supremicist group for the attempted MLK Day bombing. So I think we have a case here of pot, kettle, black.

Where did you see that? I didn’t see any such thing. You guys were having an interesting comparative religion discussion until you made a political statement out of her remarks. COme on, Legion. Sheesh.
graceland or dollyland
Legion, there is plenty of subjugation of women according to biblical law in the Hassidic community.
