“What does this have to do with the discussion? I think people who want to implement sharia law are no different than the fundamentalists in Christianity and Judaism who want to impose their religious laws on everyone.”
bxgrl,
You know full well what I’m getting at.
In short, I want to see the same rigorous evaluation and standard, of societal acceptance of religious ideas,
applied to the Muslim community.
In other words, if a religious group is telling you that they seek to subjugate women as per their religious ideas, I would expect the Left to apply the same enthusiastic defense of women’s rights as they exhibit with regard to Christendom.
Perhaps more so, as we are currently at war with radical Islamists.
I can already see from your posts that you are set to defend Sharia law but willing to critique Christianity at the drop of a dime.
“If some religious tradition also has laws that make sense for the government to implement, they should be enacted and implemented through a totally secular process and in a way that applies to all peoples equally.”
I don’t think there is any value-neutral way of assessing what ‘makes sense’.
The solutions boil down to: 1) going with the values of the majority, or the most powerful in some other way or 2) limiting the scope of government to such a degree that very few individuals’ values are affected by collective decisions.
Cape May is nice, but still too cold for beach.
“depends on what/whom you are getting away from”
Unfortunately, I’m taking the husband.
bxgrl – I forget, what’s the reasoning behind that law?

Any suggestions?
Expert, tease your hair and hit the Jersey Shore 🙂
