  1. I was raised Catholic and I find the idea of the Holy Trinity to be a beautiful and intriguing one.

That God, The Holy Spirit and The Son are entwined as one.
It has implications both internal to man (such as the idea of id, ego and superego) and external (such as life, death and what happens to our body beyond).

This is inherent in the holy rituals such as the Eucharist and the idea of Transubstantiation.

  2. “I would assume you are against Sharia law and those in this country who would overtly or covertly seek its implementation?”

What does this have to do with the discussion? I think people who want to implement sharia law are no different than the fundamentalists in Christianity and Judaism who want to impose their religious laws on everyone.

You are also neglecting to mention that sharia law would not replace US law but would be applied only in certain instances. The US already allows certain Jewish groups to use religious law in their own courts- but it is very restricted as to what those laws can apply to.

  3. “But I think BHS’s real point is that we seemed to have picked and chosen what we keep from the bible. ”

    Exactly.
I did not even bring up Jesus’s thoughts on earthly wealth which was a big part of his message.

Personally, I am an atheist who thinks that Jesus was a pretty cool prophet with some great ideas, especially for the time.
I do not think that all of his teachings were perfect, and some that were good for the environment he preached in do not make sense today.

  4. Oh sorry, one more thing, part of my confusion about what Scott meant about women’s rights was that the concept of natural rights that exist separately from God didn’t make sense in the context of the discussion.
