DH, back in the 1980s; when it looked like the Japanese were about to put us out of business, it was often said that Japan was ahead cuz their smart grads went into engineering and our went into banking. It didn;t exactly work out that way but still can’t be a good thing for us in the long run.
Here is a poem by Gabriela Mistral (translation from Spanish):
“His Name is Today”
(Su Nombre es Hoy)
We are guilty of many errors and many faults,
But our worst crime is abandoning the children,
Neglecting the fountain of life
Many things we need can wait
But the child cannot. Right now is the time;
His bones are being formed,
His senses are being developed
His blood is being made
To him, we cannot answer, “Tomorrowâ€,
His name is “Todayâ€.
Obama left wing? Ahahahahahahahaha!!! Posturing with the electorate? The electorate that VOTED him into office. Who else should he be posturing with? The Koch Brothers?
Obama’s problems with the electorate is that he hasn’t done a lot of what he promised to do- at least not as quickly as the electorate would like. And he let the right wing dominate the conversation- instead of keeping control of it.
re teachers unions: Seems teachers everywhere are under attack with massive layoffs in the works. While the conservatives are blaming teachers and their unions for every ill, how about the politicians who put policies into place that make our education system a disaster? Think Texas, where a dentist/board member can determine what goes into textbooks.
BHS, my recent experiences at LGA in terms of getting there early and checking in and getting past security have all been positive and there have been no holdups whatsoever. The biggest challenge with LGA is whether or not one’s airplane will actually depart. The smallest amount of rain could result in delays. I believe you said you’re gonig to Dallas. You shouldn’t have any issues. I would plan to get there maybe 90 mins prior to departure, but I always err on the side of being too early rather than late.
Agree with Arkady. For a 7:30 flight you should get to LGA at 6 or 6:30. No problem with traffic if you’re leaving home at 5:45 (which is what I would do). Lines can be long at that time of day depending on the airline though.
BHS, what airline….US Air is really a breeze going through especially at the end where the shuttle is. If you have a 7:20 flight you’ll probably be there around 6:00 so traffic won’t be a problem
and yeah, wassup with no comment on the rape in Park Slope?
I guess you never saw the Nov 2010 election results. Obama mentioned someting called a “shellacking.”
Posturing with the unions means that he doesn’t inderstand why there was a shellacking.
denton…in our recent times. Maybe Jimmy carter, as insignificant as he was.
