New York is very overrepresented in financial fields and underrepresented in the technical fields compared to much of the country.
If you went to San Jose or Austin, you would find the situation reversed.
I work in a technical field, and I know that salaries in my area are much higher than my college friends who got humanities degrees, and are on par or slightly better than those who went the business/accounting route.
G10, if not for trying to start a biz, really am not motivated to learn how to maintain a website, twitter, or facebook accounts. I dont have disdain for them rather simply not much interest before to learn it
Thanks everyone for the LaGuardia advice. I think I’ll plan on leaving around 5:45 to play it somewhat safe.
Denton, I would be willing to pay somewhat higher taxes, as in a return to the rates that existed in the second half of the 90s.
In return, I would like to see government pension benefits return to that same era. The major increases in heath care costs since then should be split 50-50.
One interesting thing I have noticed during all this blah blah guvment/union bashing is the number of people who have expressed a willingness to pay higher taxes to support the size of guvment as it currently exists.
Because they regard appearance on ‘best employers’ lists as prestigious and part of developing their brand.
The firm isn’t really either public or private (or you could say it’s a bit of both), although it works more like a private firm from my perspective. Hard to explain without the context (i.e. saying exactly what I do and for whom).
They are indeed a good employer, though.
There seems to be a growing movement of union support, so I think Obama understands exactly what he’s doing
REALLY???? You think all those teachers and other union employees that were bused into rally at the statehouse is “growing support.”
I really doubt it. I’d like to see some support of that statement.
just because the union members have gotten all vocal over this doesn’t equate to higher support.
And, you know what, all the comment I’ve seen out of the private sector union people is that they are in support of the governor on this. They’ve just been shown the packages that the government workers get and they are mad as hell.

The silence is deafening.
