I agree, lech. I would hate to see a bunch of ill thought out laws passed in reaction to this event.
I personally think that mental health issues should be the focus. Sane people don’t go around killing people and mentally unstable people who get the appropriate help are far less likely to do something this crazy.
anyone want to discuss Carmelo trade to Nets? if he gets trade there, Carmelo is more about $$$ than winning – ie not someone I would’ve wanted anyway on Knicks

Actually, denton, I was responding to dave’s post about the shootings, though I stand by what I say. I’m just not sure why this debate, as usual, has to devolve into ad hominem attacks.
thank you. i am really trying to be nice and had no intention of trolling or whatever (until DIBS pissed me off. sometimes i think Rob and DIBS are the same person…ugh).
Whether legal or illegal, Constitutionally mandated or not, I will never understand why some kinds of guns are allowed to be sold to anyone who wants one in some states. Hunting rifles? OK, I get it. Handguns? Up to a point, I get those too, from a legal standpoint, although I personally disagree with the “need” to own one for 90% of the population. But assault rifles, semi-automatic handguns that can hold a huge amount of rounds, and all of the other guns that have no use to a hunter, and aren’t even being used by law enforcement? Sorry, gun lovers, but those are designed for offense, not defense, and have no place except in the hands of the military or law enforcement. Far too often they end up in the hands of nuts, criminals, racist militia groups, and other people who should not have access to them. It’s got to stop.
WOuld that have stopped this guy? No. But had he only had a regular hand gun (which is bad enough) that holds 6 or 9 rounds, the disaster would have been much less.
I just think the gun control debate should wait for another day.
Sort of like after 9/11 when people started trying to use it to support political views they already held before it happened. It just want’s the place or time.
