lechacal, we get godparents at baptism. Anyone who is not baptized winds up in Limbo for all eternity after they die. You can be baptized at any time in your life. And I think that you can get a post mortem baptism when you get Extreme Unction (The Last Rights).
CGar, I don’t know if people really understand the meaning of godparents so well anymore – but in the Catholic faith anyway, the godparents are chosen and it required a letter from a priest attesting to participation in religious activities, Mass attendance, etc. and the godparents make a vow to have a spiritual responsibility for the kid during the baptism itself.
Yes, I am amazed that it is is not well-known that there is a full-blown monastery in Brooklyn with high-walls, cloisters and all. It takes up an entire city block.

“The politicization of hatred of government,” – very apt phrase of what seems to me has happened in this country. Few decades back was mostly a leftwing phenomenum ( way back when when there was a leftist movement in this country) of rhetoric from SDS, weather underground, black panthers, etc. Now it seems very rightwing.
I am a godparent. So far it means sending presents for Christmas and birthdays, and trying to visit. They are delightful kids but I don’t think that has anything to do with my spiritual guidance.
so i totally didnt cancel the dog walker (im out of cell phone minutes and i dont even know the phone number and it was probably too late anyway). at some point in the next hour someone is going to be walking into my apartment to walk my dog. should i just be like, oh hi! or should i had in my bedroom til he is gone? seems akward. will he even sense that i am here? this is a new dog walker btw, duke’s old dog walker is now in asia teaching english. she rocked.
