  1. His wife’s name is Gmabel, I’ll have you know. You’re going dow for this cobble. Hear my words.

Lech, I am not referring to china in the 20th century but there is no denying their history of accomplishments in the arts, architecture, etc. Even the Italians took from them. And every civilization goes through cycles- even as we are now. Anyone who thinks China never made in into the “bracket” of great civilizations is not paying attention. It went on for hundreds of years. By contrast, the Italian Renaissance, brilliant as it was,not as long lived. In the end, I see parallels with the end of great civilization, whether it be Mussolini or Mao. All things in cycles.

  2. g10, wealth plays a huge part. when your country is poor, emphasis is on cranking out engineers, doctors, research scientists,… music, arts is fluff stuff in that situation. much easier to be focused on “creative” stuff when you’re a rich nation with all that free time, etc.

  3. Soul is not just for black or contemporary music. I can apply to opera or classical music as well. Soul is the difference between the opera singer who is just technically perfect and singer who is technically but makes you weep because she/he is able to convey the emotion of the piece
